The Second Modern Times is an audio-visual production that aims to describe
and interpret the reality of the current world taking the following affirmation
as a starting point: We are the involuntary and accidental protagonists of a singular moment
of the human adventure, a time of deep changes that justify the proposal
to inaugurate a new stage in the chronology of the history: the Second
Modern Times. The production is constructed as a series of six 55-minute documentary
films in which we develope the previous affirmation and we analyze the
main transformations that characterize the new period.
They are the following ones :Chapter 1: A Singular Time
The singularity of the moment is justified by the evolution of the human
capacities of communication: appearance of the language, writing, printing
press, mass media and today network communications.
We analyze the effect of new forms of communication in our way of life.
Are we going towards a knowledge society or rather towards the Ignorance
Society?
The dynamics of our time is characterized by exponential growth, from
annual production of soybean to the quantity of accumulated information.
Does limit exist? Where is it.
In the new age our power will be able to modify our own nature. Life expectancy
grows continuously, million of people control their feelings by drugs
and shortly we will be able to manipulate our genes or to live in almost
perfect virtual worlds. Being a human being will be a different thing
In spite of living in a technological and scientific world, religion has
come to our days in a good form. Now we know that religion has biological
bases and maybe it will be always with us.
The previous chapters have raised more questions than answers. The uncertainty
characterizes the beginning of the Second Modern Age. And from uncertainties
to challenges there is only a small step.
Each chapter constitutes an independent unit. The structure is sustained
on interviews to relevant experts in every field, in dialog with a narrator
which connects the ideas and provides continuity. Also it will include
some histories, fictitious or not, that help to illustrate some aspects
of the story and to provide proximity to the spectator.
